Apple has released iOS 4.1 for the iPhone and iPod touch bringing numerous new features including a fix for the iPhone 4 proximity issues.

This update contains improvements, including the following:

Celebrity Nerds: Justin Long jailbreaks his iPhone like a PC guy

With his contract to Apple now a thing of the past, we guess Justin Long’s not the smug, overconsuming Mac archetype we’d always assumed. We’ve gotta give credit to a man who sticks it to his former employer by busting out of the walled garden as demonstrated by the Cydia icon’s appearance on Long’s iPhone during a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live. Then again, jailbreakme made the process so easy even a hollywood actor could do it, so who knows.

These are simple instructions on how to boost the volume level of songs or video when playing in iTunes. You may need to do this if the audio track for a particular song or video is too low to hear.

Step One
Launch iTunes from your Dock.

Step Two
If you haven’t already, drag your media into iTunes to add it to the library.

Step Three
Select a song or video then press Command+i on the keyboard or right click the item and selectGet Info from the contextual menu.

Step Four
Click to select the Options tab.

Step Five
Move the volume adjustment slider to the right to increase the volume then press the OK button.

Apple today released updated versions of its iOS operating system, addressing a significant security vulnerability in the way Safari handles PDF files on Apple’s mobile devices. The new versions, which arrive as iOS 4.0.2 for the iPhone and iPod touch and iOS 3.2.2 for the iPad, should also disable the Web-based JailbreakMe service that first exploited the vulnerability.

Apple announced 12-core Mac Pro (and revamped quad- and 6-core models) ready to order.

Prices start at $4,999 for a pair of 6-core Xeon Westmere procesors humming along at 2.66GHz, 6GB of memory, a 1TB hard drive, SuperDrive, and ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics.

Apple releases Safari 5.0.1, Extensions Gallery now open

Safari 5′s extension support just got a whole lot more useful this morning, as Apple’s just released Safari 5.0.1, which enables the feature for end users, and opened its official Extension Gallery. Extensions can be installed from anywhere, but you might think of the Gallery as the App Store for browser add-ons  and it seems decently stocked at launch, with notable entries from Amazon, eBay, Bing, MLB.com, the New York Times, and Twitter. We’d expect that number to grow over time, as extensions are apparently quite simply built in HTML5, CSS and JavaScript.
